Gaurāṅga Bolite Habe

Narottama Dāsa Ṭhākura

verse 1

‘gaurāṅga’ bolite habe pulaka-śarīra

‘hari hari’ bolite nayane ba’be nīra

‘গৌরাঙ্গ’ বলিতে হবে পুলক-শরীর

‘হরি হরি’ বলিতে নয়নে ব’বে নীর

‘गौराङ्ग’ बलिते हबे पुलक-शरीर

‘हरि हरि’ बलिते नयने ब’बे नीर

translation 1

When will that opportune moment come to us, when there will be shivering of the body as soon as we chant Lord Gaurāṅga’s name? While chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, when will there be tears in the eyes?

verse 2

āra kabe nitāi-cānder koruṇā hoibe

saṁsāra-bāsanā mora kabe tuccha ha’be

আর কবে নিতাই-চাঁদের করুণা হইবে

সংসার-বাসনা মোর কবে তুচ্ছ হ’বে

आर कबे निताइ-चाँदेर करुणा हइबे

संसार-वासना मोर कबे तुच्छ ह’बे

translation 2

When will I obtain the mercy of Lord Nitāi-candra? When, by His mercy will the desire for material enjoyment become very insignificant?

verse 3

viṣaya chāriyā kabe śuddha ha’be mana

kabe hāma herabo śrī-bṛndābana

বিষয় ছাড়িয়া কবে শুদ্ধ হ’বে মন

কবে হাম হেরব শ্রী-বৃন্দাবন

विषय छाड़िया कबे शुद्ध ह’बे मन

कबे हाम हेरब श्री-वृन्दावन

translation 3

When the mind is completely purified, being freed from material anxieties and desires, then I shall be able to understand Vṛndāvana and the conjugal love of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa, and then my spiritual life will be successful.

verse 4

rūpa-raghunātha-pade hoibe ākuti

kabe hāma bujhabo se jugala-pīriti

রূপ-রঘুনাথ-পদে হইবে আকুতি

কবে হাম বুঝব সে যুগল-পীরিতি

रूप-रघुनाथ-पदे हइबे आकुति

कबे हाम बुझब से युगल-पीरिति

translation 4

When shall I be very much eager to study the books left by the Six Gosvāmīs, headed by Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī and Śrīla Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī? By their instruction I shall be able to properly understand the loving affairs of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa.

rūpa-raghunātha-pade rahu mora āśa

prārthanā koroye sadā narottama-dāsa

রূপ-রঘুনাথ-পদে রহু মোর আশ

প্রার্থনা করয়ে সদা নরোত্তম-দাস

रूप-रघुनाथ-पदे रहु मोर आश

प्रार्थना करये सदा नरोत्तम-दास

translation 5

My only aspiration is to attain the lotus feet of the Six Gosvāmīs headed by Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī and Śrīla Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī. Narottama dāsa constantly prays to attain their lotus feet.
